07 Mini Cooper Or 07/08 Mitsubishi Eclipse?

I am 17 and going to be getting my first car. I know quite a lot about cars, and have narrowed it down to these two. I really keep on flip flopping on each car and its really making it hard to make a decision, so I’m trying to get some opinions. Some notes: This car will be taken north to sacromento with me for college (im in Los Angeles as of now), i’ll be getting automatic, and it’ll be around $25000 spending.
I like the eclipse’s “sportronic” transmission because its a clutchless manual, but the mini cooper is tons easier to drive with no huge blind spot, and a smaller car which i love.

Dude…. I was in same position choosing between Mini and eclipse and brought eclipse ( becuase of good deal ) But I regret it.
Money wise Mini holds value eventhough its not as cool looking as eclipse ( depends on whom you ask though). Eclipse looses value pretty fast.
For maintaince and reliability : I dont know much about mini but eclipse is a sucker. If you look online for eclipse problems…you find a ton. FYI my eclipse tranmission failed last week ( car has only 50000 miles and alas no warrenty…. means costing me 2-3 K atleast to fix it)
So bottom line : If you wanna keep only for couple years and sell it….you wont get much money back from eclipse. Similary if you wanna keep it for more than 3 years….MAKE SURE to get a extended warrenty…..becuase you need it.
They are like completely different car…
different in class, and different in driving experience.
You should list ur priority of what you want for a car b4 u ask, it will help…
Comparing a different class is different from comparing a Ford focus vs Chevy Cobalt…
ppl just gonna throw in random answers if you dont list ur priority, like the first answer u got.
But, since i posted, i’ll chip in a lil advice..
The blind spot thing will be eliminated by driving experience you will gain, so dont worry about it too much.
The mini copper will beat the eclipse most likely by name brand and styling, with Fuel economy.
But since it is a lot smaller and lighter, you will have a GO-Kart ride quality, while the eclipse will be more comfortable.
And the sportronic shifting thing… they are not even close to clutchless manual. The Automatic tranny by Mitsubishi and known to be crap, it shifts harsh and slow, and unreliable.
the Eclipse, their 6 cylinder are quick and responsive, but it is a gasoline thirsted vampire. “3.8 L” While their 4-cyln is slower than a Toyota Corolla….
The Mini cooper, it’s roominess and ride quality makes me think twice for the price it ask for… I rather go for a Toyota Yaris, Honda Fit, which cost 10k less.
or even a VW rabbit/golf GTI for its price.
To me, i dont really like either one of them…
